Sandra Babb was born in Ringgold, Georgia and resides in Catoosa County on the family farm. She received a BFA in Graphic Design at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  She has studied with Plein Air teachers: Armand Cabrera, Janice Hines, L. Diane Johnson, and Greg Kruetz. She has taken pastel workshops with Bob Rohm, Maggie Price, and Susan Doubleday.  Sandra attended portrait workshops led by the following artists: Michael Del Priore, Robert Liberace, Dawn Whitlaw, Edward Jonas, Janet McGrath and Gordon Wetmore. The privilege of learning from many professionals is available when she is able to attend the Society of Portrait Artists Conferences.

She painted a 12 x 12 foot window mural window at Boynton Elementary School when participating as a business partner representing the Babb Lumber Company, the family business.

Several of her paintings are in the permanent collection of the Catoosa County Health Department. She has work in private collections in the United States and in the Netherlands.

Sandra was greatly influenced by the French Impressionist Claude Monet when she studied and spent time painting in Giverny, FR in Monet’s garden. A very special moment was when she was painting alone beside the pond and a beaver came swimming by her. She felt like Monet himself must have experienced something similar as he stood  painting in his famous gardens. Sandra’s favorite painter of light is the Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla.  He was a contemporary of John Singer Sargent, another admired artist.

Sandra continues to study color and the elements of art daily. She paints each day she has the opportunity and encourages other artists to paint from “life”.

Anne Bagby’s exciting complicated papers workshop got the creative juices flowing. In the winter months when it’s too difficult to paint outside for freezing fingers Sandra may be found in her home studio at 351 Old Three Notch Road, Ringgold, GA .
